How it Started
Flourish was started by Natalie Wynn in the Spring of 2019 through partnership with Light of the Village in Prichard, AL and Konbit Haiti in Montrouis, Haiti.
Through working with both communities, she began to see that whether you are in Prichard, AL or Montrouis, Haiti— lack of resources puts you at a disadvantage for success in the future. Through training, she learned there is also a greater risk for teen girls living below the poverty line to be trafficked, involved in domestic violence relationships & drug/alcohol abuse. So she saw the need for a safe place for teen girls to spend their time, be developed & coached toward a successful future.
In the Spring of 2020, she started planning the launch of a place for teen girls that would give them a place to learn, grow & have fun.
Her passion for helping girls started in high school, hosting outreach opportunities to local orphanages & leading teen girls Bible studies. While working with a ministry in college, hosting after-school programs & lock-ins for teen girls, she heard the heart breaking stories from young girls facing challenges like abuse, self-harm & low self-esteem. Since then, she has partnered with several non-profits to help teen girls & adult women build self-confidence, learn job skills & feel accepted & loved.
Her desire is to help girls develop confidence & skills to choose a life of purpose & have mentors to help them along the way.
How It’s Going
Since launching in the Fall of 2020, Flourish has served 65+ girls through weekly workshops, career prep classes, one-on-one mentoring and counseling.
We have offered over 200 hours of workshops and 150 hours of mental health counseling for teen girls.
Our mission continues daily as we look for ways to serve more girls in our community from under-resourced communities.
